I'm interested in skinning shapes that requiring 2 or more pieces of fabric.

Consider a closed volume, like a 3d oval shape , obviously more than one piece is required.

1.  Do I apply the epoxy base coat in stages, because of limited time the coat is tacky? (ie apply base coat and skin the first half, and then do the same to the second?

2. Any tricks to get the seam neat?

3. What would be the procedure for putting a 10mm strip along the seam? Hair spray to make the strip rigid then more base coat on seam?

Many thanks,
Adam

Hi!
I don't really get idea of using hair spray. I think you mean that you want to create clean cut as it is in profinish fabric, am I right?I have never done such a thing before, so I can't tell you whether it works or not. You can use base coat but I use normal epoxy resin or gel or spray can glue. I recommend using twill waeve as it is better for curvy places. Pro finish will allow you to have better cuts but it is stiffer so it takes the shape harder than standard twill. My own idea is to use gelcoat instead of resin to cover the fabric, because it will be more uv stable.

when I skinned the 2 plane curved roof of my car I put masking tape along the split line then fitted the carbon up to it and cut carefully with it glued in place... I then repeated with the other section overlapping and cutting carefully to the other sheet already on the panel. the result was a pretty good V weave.

Have to say though that I couldn't manage to get the V weave as good as using resin infusion in my moulds Sad
