Any suggestions for mould locating pins?

Group: Administrators Posts: 2.5K, Visits: 8.5K	Looks like a well engineered solution. Nothing wrong with drilling through and using nuts and bolts if you can mould in an interlock. Group: Forum Members Posts: 12, Visits: 74	I make my own half spheres from solid resin that are drilled a tapped from behind or just stuck in place before I lay up the mould. Group: Forum Members Posts: 468, Visits: 2.7K	I've used impact rivets before as half spheres but for really good locations I use a washer in the plug to leave a round hole and then I use pattern makers dowels. Group: Forum Members Posts: 1, Visits: 10	Hi, I'm new here and came across this topic. I use marbles, cheap and easy to come by. When doing split molds, I use them as locating pins. Once the plug is done, a parting board is cut to the dimensions required, with the shape of the plug in the middle. Marbles are imbedded halfway using body putty, the parting board is installed, waxed, and the side of the plug where the marbles are, is laid up. Once the resin has cured, remove the parting board, clean and wax the mold face, lay up the other half. The shape of the marbles will make alignment perfect every time. Picture show a marble still imbedded in a parting board with removed marbles beside it. Other picture shows the locating pins in a mold set. Good thinking, thats how i tackle mine too. No need faffing around with embedded sockets that need to line up in the first place to when building the mould anyway. Half spheres, n then bolt em together. easy as.
