Hi All,

My name is Andrew, I am in my late 20s/early 30s and I first got into composites in mid-late 2011 when I purchased some vacuum bagging equipment and CF cloth from easy composites and carbon mods in an effort to emulate a carbon fibre ashtray cover for my Audi R8 which I had seen for sale on a US forum.  Unfortunately my early attempts did not prove successful so I resorted to just purchasing the ready made carbon fibre ashtray cover from that very same US-based retailer.

Now, a little over 2 years later, I have decided to dust off the vacuum pump and associated ancillaries in an effort to skin various car parts in carbon fibre.

This is what I am aiming for:

Please note that the following pictures are parts I have seen and hope to emulate, these are not pictures of my attempts.

MMI (SATNAV) Screen surround
Drivers side airvent surround
Dash trim
Door trims

I've edited my original post to clarify that the images are of parts which have been skinned in CF which I hope to emulate.  They are not of my attempts so far.

I'm hoping to pay a fraction of their USD1000 asking price by attempting the job myself instead.

Yep, you read that right.

If you want the door trims done that's 600 but for all interior trims is 1000.  That's if you send them your trims to be skinned, or alternatively pay an extra 400 then they skin some for you, send them to you then you get a refund of 350 when you return your factory parts back to them.

So, rather than pay the GBP equivalent of USD1000+ I am having a go at the process myself.

Originally I was mixing epoxy basecoat and hardener 1:1 then realised it's meant to be 1:0.5 so that fixed one of my first issues.  Now I realise I have laminating resin instead of coating resin so I've ordered some coating resin from easycomposites and I am hoping my attempts will be alot better from now on.
