I`d like order material for repair carbon frame ( see the attached file) but I never use carbon.

I will use this for the first time so I`d like to ask you what I will be need for this repair.

Can you give me some advice about how I can do this repair and how I can use this material?

My last question is that can you tell me how much cost postage to the Slovakia?

 Thank you for your email and this forum post. The first thing I should say is that we don’t sell a carbon fibre bike frame repair kit because generally we don’t want to encourage people to make repairs to structural and safety critical part like a bike frame without explaining that any work undertaken would be at your own risk, any advice given is given in good faith and no guarantees or assurances can be madeas to whether a repair is appropriate or safe to do. If in any doubt, either replace the frame or take it to a professional.

 With that said, if you do wish to undertake a repair yourself then it’s often perfectly safe and easy to make a good repair and restore strength to the frame. If the damage has broken or split the carbon fibres themselves (i.e. it is structural damage) then you can add new layers of carbon fibre to the part to return the original strength and prevent further damage.

 If you do make a repair like this then you should be aware that you will always be able to see where the repair has been made. You can restore the strength in this way but not the original appearance. To make a structural repair to a bike frame I would recommend our 'Fishing Pole Repair Kit'. Although it was developed to repair fishing poles, repairing a bike frame is done in exactly the same way.

 The more fabric (and resin) that you add (i.e. the more times you wrap the fabric around) then the more strength you will add but it the same time the repair will look bigger. The Fishing Pole Repair Kit uses a very special, lightweight 90gsm cloth which allows very thin and lightweight repairs to be under taken however if the damage is significant and you intend to add 1mm+ or wall thickness by way of the repair then you should consider additionally purchasing a small 0.3sqm roll of 200gsm plain weave cloth. This cloth is more than twice the weight of the cloth included in the Fishing Pole Repair Kit and would be ideal for larger repairs to heavier damage although if the repair is small you ill be fine with just the 90gsm cloth included in the Fishing Pole Repair Kit.

Hi Peter

Once your repair your bike structurally you can hide the unsightly bulge of carbon you have. I would just build up a skim layer of bondo and sculpt it perfectly round to match your tube. Taper the edges to meet your existing tube. I would then paint that part black, clear and polish. If I was in one of my perfectionist moods I would balance the look on the other side tube and build it up the same as the repair. In this way it would look like it was engineered that way from the factory. It would bug your competitors thinking you had some engineering advantage over their plain bikes!
