yes, not all parts are equal, but for this shape, the adjectives I used are almost universally valid. especially when you can make such a mold for like 15€. the only thing I can think of, why it should be done this way would be the surface optics. but usually machined carbon isnn't an eye catcher. If you, for whatever reason, want to try it shaped of a carbon block, I would simply buy a carbon plate, cut it into stripes, and then glue them together. this will give you a much more uniform thickness, and less voids, compared to hand laminating. if you just glue stripes on, where material is needed, it would be much cheaper, too. and your cc time will come down.
