What would be the thickest rod, which I can safely bend into a ring of 20-25 cm diameter for long term storage, and unbend when needed for my application?

you will need to experiment!

I have found that the very small diameter "pulltruded" CF rods will not break even when bent to a quite small diameter, but they will NOT straighten out completely if they have been kept bent below a certain radius for extended periods.
In some cases they will take a long time to become reasonably straight again.
