Hello
First I must say congrats to the producers of this forum and its members, wow some of the projects on here are amazing.
I hire a workshop in macclesfield where I do all my hobby stuff, it started 3 years ago with a project to make carbon fiber coffe cups and my attempts kept failing one after the other, but I kept going and now I have collected lots of equipment to complete my first project (all composite gear, lathe & mill, heat cupboards, spray painting etc).
The cup still isnt finished but its very close, ive had to invent my own techniques to produce a shinny smooth finish on all sides, a perfectly captured CF fabric with No bubbles.
The engineering equipment comes in very handy with composites, I make my own brackets and screw components that I epoxy into the final products that I make for my superbike, it looks very clean and tidy.
Tonight I was working on my
Gyro Cam
project, its a shark fin that comes off the rear of the bike at 45 degrees, then a gyro/servo holds a carbon poll with a mini HD camera at the end of it. The images will show me riding the bike and where its going but the horrizon will remain flat even when I throw the bike left or right into turns. I can't wait to see what the images turn out like.
Im self taught with everything through forums and youtube, but id like to offer an open invitation to anyone who wishes to visit, it would be nice possible share a project for a change
Regards

Hey Ant, welcome.
If you've any ideas of a project you'd like to tackle I might be interested! Not sure if I could be of assistance to you or if I'm at a lower level or whatever but it might be cool to meet up and find out.
I've posted some of my work so far on here. I'm lying dormant on the composites front at the moment due to lack of funds/other priorities, but will be back!
Nice bike btw, I'm working on some bits and bobs for my gen 3 ZX10r.

Mr Rooty Tooty - Yeah mate thats why I asked what you were into, im not an expert either but that wont put me off
How far away are you from macclesfield?
Ive been considering taking on a cf monocoque rear end for my bike, but one which incorporates a thin tail light and accept the stock seat.
Here is my latest project, its a gyro cam like motogp use but higher up and further back, the result will be an image that looks down on the rider and forwards allong the road. I expect the images will look great when I hang off the bike for a corner.

Wow, nicely done!
Does it make the bike want to sit upright at higher speeds?
I'm in Hinckley, midlands (near Leicester). I'm interested in all aspects of cf fabrication.
Things I've been looking at most recently are making petrol tanks for bikes and my mate has got me looking at making seats for his porsche. But generally anything in any area, auomotive or not, I find interesting.
Haven't got any projects on the go at the moment (well, I'm carbon skinning an 888 front mudguard for a chap but that's not very interesting....). I bought a resin infusion kit but haven't had much time to play with it so will most likely be molding and copying some panels when the time comes.
What's your plan for the monocoque then? Are you going to build a plug? Should be a nice little project

never tested the gyro cam, wiring it up today I got my 12v to 6v converter wired up backwards and blew the gyro
£55 and a 2 week wait for one to arrive from USA. I doubt ill be doing top speeds with it, the camera will undoubtably shake in the winds, maybe 70ish max. Testing will tell.
Just had a crap outcome with my last resin infusion job, the rising went So very brittle and my part shattered coming out of the mould. Did a test on the resin and it fractured like tempured glass. Hope its just that batch, ive got 1 fresh batch from EC and another from CM to test. It cost loads to do each run though.
The monocoque will need a plug, ill buy a superbike tail and alter it, make the moulds and use wet layup with 600 CF keeping the main strength under the seat. Ill inser alloy parts where it bolts to the frame.
Next time I start a jub ill list it here and see if I can get help with the inevitable problems that come along LOL
