I am building a bamboo bike frame from moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis). I am new to carbon fibre and resin and am looking for the right set of products that would allow me to join the frame at the 5 corners. I plan to use steel lugs to provide joint support, but want the primary joint support to come from the carbon fibre. Could someone please advise me on the pros and cons of the different products? Specifically I am thinking of purchasing the carbon fibre starter kit to try on test parts. Ultimately I would like to use carbon fibre tow 6K and the carbon fibre tape plain weave to make up most of the joint and then finish with a glossy black surface. I do not know what resin to choose.

Bamboo can be highly variable in terms of its strength qualities. I have reviewed some recent academic literature and found that moso bamboo has a tensile modulos of elasticity from 10-25 GPa and tensile strength of 120-200 MPa.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Bamboo bike builder, welcome to the forum,

You might wanna post this question in the sports equipment section, I'm sure you'll get some answers on it. I would have thought that you would be looking at a simple wrap with cloth and then shrink tape over it to consolidate it.
