Hello,

I've got some repair work I need to do on some fibreglass for my car, and I will be taking a mould from the finished part. Advice on fibreglass repair is fairly easy to find, but not so easy to find advice where you are repairing it for mould making!

Some pieces of the surface layers of gelcoat and glass have cracked and come away from the part.

What would be the best bet for finishing it for taking moulds from it?

I will need to repair it with resin and glass anyway, would I be best working to get a smooth surface from the fibreglass resin, would a separate gelcoat layer be required?
I can get primer applied as well if this would be a better option and I will probably be getting it painted eventually, but don't see any point in doing so properly until after the moulds have been made.

Thanks!

Ian
