Hi guys,

Can somebody of you please recommend the layup for a carbon door?

The door will basically consist of an outer and inner shell. The driver will mainly be protected by the cage / door bars of the cage, so they do not need to offer any side protection like the doors made by andygtt for his noble. I'm a little bit worried about the sharp chips of bursted carbon fiber in the case of a side impact.

I remember that somebody in a forum recommended a layer of carbon/aramid cloth or full aramid cloth for the driver - sided areas. Will this help? If yes, why?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

IMO, all composite drivers doors, regardless of roll cage or not should be fitted with an anti intrusion panel, either built into the door on the inner skin, or if  space allows, mount to the door bars of the cage. My anti intrusion panels are aluminium honeycomb sandwiched between aramid/carbon layers.

As for the door layup, for me it depends on the design on te door, mainly the window frame. A good start would be:

1x 200gsm
1x 450gsm

Then some soric covered by 200 on large flat panels if there's no swages etc

Thank you very much for your input!

Can you do me a favour and show me some pics of your anti intrusion panel?

The window frame is very tricky, we want to do it in a seperate mold as a seperate part.

The doors are from a Mazda Rx7 FD3s, here are some pics to show the curvature:
