Prior to applying a finishing layer of coating resin i thought it would be a good idea to
degass
it as ive been getting micro bubbles that collect polish.
However for me the
degass
ing process seems to add more bubbles than it get rid of.
Curently Im poring this resin by hand, "tipping out" with a brush and then using a heat gun to pop bubbles. which is OK but id like to
degass
first.
here are some pics.
Mixed Coating Resin prior to de-gassing
Resin during
degass
ing - i left it like this for 2 or 3 minutes until the bubbles collapsed - then locked off the pump and vented the chamber
vacum reading
resin after venting ....
after waiting 5 mins to see if the bubbles float out....
i tried
degass
ing it again and again but it didnt improve, so after an hour, by which time it had started to warm warm up. i binned it and used the old method.
What is going wrong ?
Thanks
Ben

What i cant get over is that although my vacuum level seems really good on the gauge my process never looks as thorough or violent as in this video.

does degassing usually work this well ?

what I mostly do is put the mixed resin into an oven at 50°C before degassing... the resin is then less viscious and easier to degass... while degassing I get the same bubbles but after a while the most bubbles are gone

Thanks Mat, by "the same bubbles" are you referring to the bubbles i get or the bubbles in the you tube vide?
Also, how long would you heat the resin for at 50* ?
After trying the process again i managed to get rid of nearly all the bubbles by degassing for about 15 mins and shaking the chamber to get the bubbles to dissipate.
I then used the resin to good effect, it was definitely an improvement on un-degassed resin and to my surprise set without any blush. Is that also a consequence of de-gassing.

The same bubbles you get
I mostly put it into an oven for around 30min, It reduces working time but I mostly have more than enough time!
watch at 2:10min you'll see the same thing you had
"behind the scenes" I've cheated a bit and put the resin into the oven and did it again and got the results you see in the video after the degassing
