I am about to make my first Carbon Fibre part. I have read about alternating layers at 0deg, 90deg and 45deg for added strength. This makes sense but looking at 2/2 twill, is there a difference between 0deg and 90deg? With the sample I have got, the horizontal threads look thinner but when you turn it 90deg the horizontal threads still look thinner so it is an optical illusion. Is there a structural difference between the 2?

0 degrees is a bit stronger than 90, as the warp is under tension when being woven.

Although in practice it is insignificantly different for all but the most technical of applications.

45 degrees is a good angle to do though if you need a more even stiffness profile.
