Hello,

Thanks in advance.

I am looking to repair the damage to the nose of my windsurf board - see this photo.

http://www.talkcomposites.com/Uploads/Images/1d30774e-3c82-452d-80d0-4c02.jpg

The board is a Bic Techno 273 and says that it's made of Carbon sandwich. Nose damage is fairly common and, whilst it looks like a gaping hole, the gap can easily be closed with light finger pressure.

I'm not too worried about aesthetics, it's more about fixing the damage so that it's watertight and strong enough to withstand the occasional knock or two.... for as low a budget as possible.

Initally I was thinking epoxy resin and fiber matting would be the way to go - for example:
  • EL2 Epoxy Laminating Resin
  • Heavyweight Kevlar Flat Braid 400g 45mm
Then I spotted this product which sounds like it might be appropriate too:
  • Black Epoxy Repair Filler 100g

What do you think? Any guidance and recommendations would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Warren

Your first idea is the right way, but perhaps with some bigger patches of cloth to ensure the loads are spread over a wider area of the nose. In essence you will need a few layers to build up the same thickness that was originally there.
