It's a fiat 500 mirror cap. I was wondering whether this kind of shape can be skinned with a single piece of carbon fiber fabric or I should do 2? I have the easycomposites ProFinish fabric. This is my second attempt so please bear with me Smile

Yes you'll do this with one piece quite easily.

I did this with one piece which was also my first go at skinning.

Man, I'm either an idiot or can't do sh1t lol. I lay the dry fabric over the cap and I get wrinkles. It's all good on the flatter surfaces but when it comes to the sharper  part on the mirror, it almost seems as if I'll have to cut the fabric to have it wrap around there. Thing is that once I have the basecoat ready and start laying the fabric, I won't have much play room as I do now with the dry fabric. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try and see

Hi Stan The Man
Pro finish will not work as it is on compound curves, you need to use a normal carbon fabric.

Hi Chris,

What does being on compound curves mean?

I've already brushed down the base coat and since I don't have normal carbon fiber, I guess I'll just have to give it a go anyway...

Simple curve:

Compound curve:

Powder coated carbon like profinish will work on compound curves, but you have to hit it with a heat gun once in place to soften the binder. That means that you often soften the base coat, or the fabric drapes too locally. For this reason, I don't like powder coated carbons. Id rather use normal fabric and mist some spray adhesive on the back.
