Me too, I like the way the square pattern catches the light slightly differently.

Here is some pic's of my first project dabbling on what I knew about fiber glassing, I was able to unlock the photos from a tablet that took a dump on me. http://www.talkcomposites.com/Uploads/Images/13765f16-c44d-4f44-a28b-fdbf.jpg

The exhaust was burning the fairing so I had to make some modifications so that it would not happen anymore, the last picture you really cannot tell but that is what it looks like after paint.

Enjoy

I have been running a project part for the past year and have sold quite a few. This is a full carbon fiber rear seat delete kit for the forth generation Toyota Supra made via infusion. I did the design/pattern from scratch and the result is pretty solid. I hope that the pictures post up successfully:

Brilliant! Really like that.

Have you clear coated that or is that the resin polished up?
How did you make the original pattern shape?

It is "clear coated" with Hawkeye's Sunshield gel coat. And the original pattern was made by the following method:

1.) Bonded sheets of housing insulation sheathing together to form large shapeable foam blocks

2.) Each block was carved into individual shapes that formed the whole (center section, sides, back, etc.)

3.) The individual parts were bonded together

4.) Then the whole part was covered in fiberglass using epoxy resin

5.) I then used automotive body filler to perfect all of the surfaces and cleanly transition all of the surfaces

6.) Lastly, I used a grey surface primer from Hawkeye as well and polished it to a high gloss finish

Thought I'd show my first ever parts I made a few years ago which were just wet lay / wrapped around original part for cosmetics only. I have recently made a mould and will be having a go at resin infusion, so there shall be more to come!

Enjoy Smile
