I'm new to this site, and new to using Carbon Fiber, but I've loved the stuff since I was little.

I've been wanting to do some projects using CF, and had some questions...

I am looking to create a nice finish layer, what would I need to do?

Would just doing a vacuum infusion do this, or would I need to add anything else like a gel coat? What is a gel coat for anyways?

I was wanting to build a desk, where the top layer (on top of some walnut wood) would be a CF panel about 50" wide and about 28" deep. Would a wet layup provide a smooth finish or should I go the vacuum infusion route?

I appreciate any input and help!
