This is another part I wish to cover in CF.  It is the plastic surround for the SATNAV screen called an MMI trim.

Here is one potential method, but is it the best method compared to say resin infusion?

1. A batch of polyurethane foam is mixed
2. The part is coated in clingfilm and placed into a baking tray which itself is also covered in clingfilm
3. Foam is poured into the tray to cover the part
4. The foam cures
5. The foam is removed from the baking tray
6. The foam is trimmed until the original mmi piece can be removed
7. The foam is tidied up
8. We can now place the mmi trim onto the foam
9. Apply basecoat to mmi trim
10. Apply carbon cloth to basecoat
11. Place inside vacuum bag
12. Apply vacuum so that cloth is compressed against the part
13. Once cured, remove part
14. Apply coating resin

Hey guys, here is a picture of a car interior air vent which I would like to skin in carbon fibre and the second picture is of a completed carbon fibre skinned part.  I have vacuum bag and resin infusion materials available aswell as the usual coating resin for hand layup.

The slatted vent section is removable so I just need to cover the grey part in carbon fibre.

What would you suggest as being the best method to cover this part in carbon fibre?

I am familiar with the various methods available so I don't need step-by-step instructions but I would appreciate some suggestions on how the more experienced members might go about doing it.

for example
Option 1) create a mould of this front face of the part and use that for resin infusion creating a layer of carbon fibre which could then have self adhesive applied and stuck to the original air vent
Option 2) regular hand layup 'skinning' of carbon fibre over the part
