I'm looking at making some car emblems in CF.  I know I can make a mold of an existing emblem no problem.  But that means to install it on the car, I would have to remove and replace the existing emblem with the new one.

What I want to do is see if I can make the mold slightly oversized so I can make a CF replica of it slightly bigger than the original embelm.  That way it can be affixed on top of the existing emblem and will be much easier to install.

But I'm not sure how I can make that mold, any suggestions?

Hi here is a pic of some I did a while ago, this the method I used.

Get yourself some 1mm sheet wax (EC sell it)
Cover the badge in a layer of sheet wax. If you gently heat the sheet with a hot air gun/hair dryer it will follow the contours of the badge.
You have to be careful as the wax is quite easily marked. (any marks will be reproduced in the surface of the mould)
Once the sheet wax is in place you can now take a mould from that. I use the EC Uni- Mould system but they also sell small mould making kits.
Once cured remove the mould from the badge, the wax sheet will come with it.
Carefully scrape out the wax sheet (wooden mixing sticks are good for this)
Clean and polish the mould to a high gloss.
You now have a mould that is 1mm bigger than the badge.
If you then make the part with 3 layers of 200 grm cloth you will have a replica that is slightly bigger than the original allowing for the thickness of the adhesive.
Trim the part and fix it over the original with a PU adhesive, something like Sikoflex.

Hope that helps
