Hi Brasco

I use carbon fibre only and do not get involved with other materials (sometimes Kevlar) i have listed below some comparisons in weight for my carbon components and  those made from GRP.

Race bike top fairing in carbon 160 grams and glass 400 grams.

Seat for a 250cc race bike in carbon  220 grams and glass 480 grams

Gear change rod in carbon 52 grams and the steel version is 125 grams (most of this is the weight of the joints)

I suppose its a matter of discussing with the client what they need and taking it from there, if its just cosmetic it makes a considerable difference to the final component price compared to one needed for motorsport.

Regards Chris

so i have been doing some research on panels and weights and construction materials.
Seibon panels are fiberglass skeleton(inside structure) and CF skin. and as advertised, offer a 50% weight savings.
i *think* i am correct in a CF hood/ bonnet should be 60 to 70% lighter than steel ? if 100% CF.....
for the more experienced users and fabricators here, i d welcome your experience on the numbers.
anyways, i am thinking if i made a part  100% CF and priced following the big makers prices i should do well. keep in mind mine would be a 100% CF part.for maximum performance and lightness, all custom made for the customer by me.
i think it is a good selling point, but is that going to be enough?
there is much to learn grasshopper.....i ll keep you posted on what i learn.
