Hi,

I have been looking the web for an aremco product - Epoxy Bond 568 and I have been unsuccessful in finding a UK based supplier. Your company popped up so I thought i'd ask the question as to whether it is something that you can supply or possibly supply an equivalent or similar product?

Alternatively if you know of anywhere I can find this product, UK based, or similar products and you could let me know I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Danny

Hi Danny,

We don't stock the product you mentioned or anything similar really as a glue.  We do stock AluminiumTryhydroxidewhich is used a filler powder to increase weight, reduce shrinkage and improve heat resistance; and this can be used with most epoxy resin systems.

are you needing it for adhesive?
my best all around this-will-bond-anything -to any-other-thing adhesive is 3m 8115 panel bond.
has glass beads  for bondline control. can be accelerated for curing faster with careful application of heat.

Product Description

3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive is a two-part epoxy adhesive which provides extended work-time but can be rapidly cured with heat. It is packaged in a 200 ml cartridge and is to be used in conjunction with our 08117 Premium Manual Applicator and the 08193 Static Mixing Nozzles.

Panel Bonding Adhesive has excellent adhesion to a wide variety of plastic and metal substrates. When the manufacturer's directions are followed, this product can be used to bond door skins, roof skins, quarter panels and box sides. In addition, product can be used for bumper cover repair under certain conditions. Typical substrates include cold roll steel, aluminum, SMC, and FRP.

This product is not intended to bond structural components of a vehicle such pillars, rockers, or frame members. If doubt exists as to whether a particular component is structural, then that component should be welded.

The last line of that product description is key to its application, ie non-structural.

LOL well yes it does, but that means in the auto repair industry. the "skin" of a unibody car is not technically structure. one has to keep the parts joined
with the best type of joining procedure. even autos like the high tech Audi a8 being all aluminium, it is made and held together with, get this--Lord Fusor adhesive with stainless steel rivets , holding aluminium panels and structure together. Audi recommends 3m 8115 for repairs in the bodyshops that are authorized to do them. everything is specially coated for corrosion/dis similar metals issues. every panel you cut into has either spot welds or rivets and adhesive joining the parts.
the 3m sales pitch is when they bond auto sheet metal in a lap joint, and use frame straightening rack to pull it apart (ten tons of force) and the high strength steel rips but the joint doesnt fail. cool stuff!

Hi Scott
Sounds like good stuff. We all have stuff we are used to and like. I use and like a Locktite product called Hysol (I would have to run out to the shop to get the numbers) It is used in aviation to bond fiberglass panels. At room temp it takes about 6 days to cure completely but is solidified overnight. Can be speeded up with heat for a quicker cure. I have tested it and the carbon panel fails before the glue does. I pigment it with black epoxy pigment so the seams don't show. It sands just like the panel you bond with it. On our side of the pond Aircraft Spruce is where I get it. Is pricey but worth it.
Hope this helps.

Brasco, lotus did similar with the Elise aluminium chassis which is bonded with a structural adhesive with only the odd rivet to prevent the joint peeling.
