You can do it very gently by hand, however this can be hard to get it 100% evenly spread.
The most accurate way is to hammer a load of pins into a wooden board at the same interval as the cell spacing. Then you open out the very start of the sheet by hand, hook the first cells over the pins, then evenly pull down to open the sheet. The Load is spread evenly across the sheet via the pins so it should open out smoothly.
