Hi,

I have a project to do, wich is a full front of a Honda Civic(Hood, bumper and fenders), in one piece, with CF.

What is your opinion about the the number of layers and type of CF to use?

Pedro

It is difficult to say without knowing how curved the panels are.  On some highly curved panels, a single layer of carbon either side of a 3mm Soric core would be plenty stiff enough, however on a flat panel the flex may be too high.

Bonnets using NO core materials can have anything between 4 and 8 layers of fabric depending on if a frame is used.

Using a core material can reduce the number of layers considerably yet the panel will remain stiff.

Warren--
do you know of any charts we can all use for us to memorize for thickness per layer of a given fabric?
example-- what is the thickness of(typical) hand laid CF in one layer ? i am guess i am trying to make a collection of data
so we can better estimate materials usage as well as best part usage and construction techniques, that will help out finances
and bottom line. it helps the us to let the customer some of the options and best use for the application.

i am thinking like this:
tell customer a bonnet is usually XX layers for this application, at XY cost  and that is typical . if he wants to make stiffer
i can add to it for ZZ price per item. i see it as opportunities for getting the product that best fits customer needs . as opposed to
just making what i suspect is best, maybe some flexiblity in the product and how it is made would be a good thing. and no, i dont
want the customer to have too much knowledge to beat me over the head with, just some options for part characteristics and cost.
and my products are going to be mainly automotive panels. and repairs of same.

thanks

scott
