Hi guys, I've been messing around with carbon rifle stocks and I'm thinking about a light strong filler for the areas that support the rifle action.
That area faces long terms compression from the action screws plus rifle recoil.
Wests micro balloons are super light and handle the recoil but compression is a problem.
413 micro fiber works well because it resists compression but I get a heavier result.
I plan to get hold of some 404 to try because from what I'm reading I should get a lighter strong result.
I might try chopped glass fiber with micro balloons but that might compromise pouring.
(I pour the epoxy into the stock so it has to be quite low viscosity to give some pretty fine detail around inserted silicone molds)

The other hassle I'm facing is shrinkage...I pour up to  200 grams into an enclosed situation and that causes some movement of the carbon.
Temperature hasn't been excessive with slow hardeners but I wonder if I would get a more stable result with casting epoxy.
Casting epoxy seems strongs with more flexibility which might be a good thing?

Cheers...Chris
