Hi,

I am making some wire coils that will be shaken violently.

I hope to soak the coils in epoxy to make a solid bar, to hold the coils.

What do I need to know, and how should I do it?

Thanks.

It sounds like you are looking to cast resin around the coils thus encapsulating them, the method for this should be fairly simple; you will need to form a barier around the part to pour the resin into, you could make this from the filleting wax you can then pour the resin into this 'void' and once it has cure remove the wax.

As long as your coils don't get hotter than 90deg C the IN2 resin with the slow hardener would be great for this as is is very low viscosity, this will mean that it will penetrate into the coil really well.

What size are the coils, as I would not recomend casting a block than is greater that 150-200grams as you could run into problems with the resin over-heating and cracking when it cures.

Hi Paul,

Yes, casting is what I want to do.  The coils will vary, but should be be within your recommendations of size and temperature.  So it all sounds good.

Thanks for your reply.

Cheers.
