I have a barrel lid from a whiskey barrel and the back of it is all burnt which i want to stabilise and end up with a nice clear resin coating.
Not too bothered by how much of a coating i end up with but the thicker the better
The problems i foresee is mainly that there is quite a lot of loose carbon which i would like to keep in place
So how would you go about this and what materials would you use

You would want to use the
GlassCast 3 Clear Epoxy Coating Resin
in a nice 2-3mm thick coating to get a nice smooth finish. However, first apply a small mixed batch of the resin over the surface as a seal coat. Allow it to cure fully then key with 120 grit paper before doing the main pour. That should seal in the carbonised wood preventing any bits floating and also sealing the wood so the resin doesn't get full of air from resin soaking into the wood.
