Hi Guys

My shipment of skinning epoxy came last week. (Shipping from UK to Canada was great about a week)

I was very anxious to try it. I skinned a Fiero Mirror and the top portion of a heatlamp.

I followed the directions on youtube "Carbon Mods" clip.

I added some black pigment to the first coat and let it tack on the pieces and then smotohed on one 6K twill layer.

It went on really nice. I then brushed on the first layer of resin and let it cure over night. I light sanded it and applyed 2 more layers.

Note: do not let it get dry to the touch and think you can brush on another layer. Bad things happen/ ask me how I know!!

You must scuff it down with sand paper before you can add another layer and then good things happen.

I then wet sanded to 1000 and buffed with compounds. I felt that the the outer epoxy was a bit soft to get the jewel clear finish I wanted so I sprayed a number of automotive 2 part clear on it.

I wetsanded and compounded to a stunning looking piece of Carbon beauty in jewel like clearity. This system works as advertized and simple to do. The carbon is pin hole free and displayes its 3D effect perfectly.

The time saving for a one off is incredible. No mockup-no mold, just straight to the part. I realize that I could skin almost anything because epoxy will not react to most materials.

Thanks again to the Boys at Easy Composites for a new technic under my belt.

PS    I suppose you could even skin a cat. (Canadian Humour)
