Hi,
I'm in "intermediate" composite hobbyist, and have taken on the largest project to date. I could use some help in identifying the best finish for the repair.

The vehicle isn't in the best cosmetic shape, so I am not too worried about the perfect finish, in fact if I do a too good job here, I'll probably want to sand down the rest of it and re-do the finish coat... I do not have the time for that.

The repaired area has been done with Epoxy Resin Hexion L285 with Hardener Hexion H285, using Interglas FK144 a 296 g/m^2 fabric.

Ideally, I'd like a topcoat or a flocoat as it can airdry before curing at temperature, and can also be applied with a roller or a brush.

What I have in mind is the following: -
GC50 Epoxy Compatible Clear Polyester Gelcoat 1KG
MEKP Catalyst 25ml
WHITE Polyester Pigment 500g Tin
Solution MW Wax Gelcoat Additive 250g

Would that be suitable for the finish to the above resin?

Best

Jon

GC50 will not work for this application.  It is designed for in mould use only.  The chemistry is such that epoxy will stick to the cured GC50 but not the other way round.  It would quickly delaminate if used as a flowcoat.

I would look at the XCR Epoxy Coating Resin as it is great for coating over epoxy based carbon surfaces, and is easy to sand and polish - hence it also being used in carbon skinning.
