What sort of material/substance do people recommend for creating fillets between a pattern and a base board.... That can be painted over.

Filleting wax is okay but doesn't like paint..

Ive tried filler but its pretty messy.

Is there anything that applies like say filleting wax and can be smoothed with filleting ball tool nicely.

I basically want to create a fillet between my pattern and a base board, run a nice fillet round the bottom edge. Then seal it, 2k paint it and take a mould from it.

Thanks
Josh

How about some epoxy with microballoons and some thixotropic filler?

Don't give up on the bodyfiller, it may just take a bit more practice or perhaps a different product, there are less/more flowing bodyfillers which may help. They can be quite messy, but with a bit of practice they are generally going to be your best bet. Often it just takes getting the timing right, allowing the bodyfiller to cure to the consistency where you can use a tool to give the radius you are after and feather it out so you have very little work to do after it fully cured.

Otherwise something like Apoxie Sculpt (which is essentially just an epoxy with a lot of filler to turn it into a sort of dough) could work, however I don't think you will find this any easier or cleaner, it can also be fairly painful and is much harder to sand.
