Hi,

I have just started on the process of using the Uni-Mould system to make some moulds from car parts for carbon fibre resin infusion.

So far i have made two moulds (The two moulds are exactly the same, wing mirror covers, so not like there is a massive amount of complexity to the shape.) and in both cases i am having issues with air voids on corners / tight angles when laying down the first two layers of 100g CSM at the coupling coat stage.

I applied resin all over cured gel coat, laid the CSM, wetted through and have tried stippling as well as the roller but no matter what i tried the CSM would just void in the same areas. On the second mould i also tried cutting the CSM into smaller pieces to see if this helped... although not as bad as the first attempt, some voids were still present.

Can anyone give advice on how to prevent this in future / what i may be doing wrong?

I also thought that maybe i could lay down two layers of glass surface tissue first? With it being lighter it may follows the contours better, then apply the CSM and follow the rest of the Uni-Mould application process.

Any advice from others more experienced in this process would be greatly appreciated! I can take some pictures later tonight of the moulds if needed.

Thanks!

You can try a bit of surface tissue or break up the 100g CSM into smaller pieces or a mash of fibres for really tight corners and you should be able to get the resin fibre mix into those areas.
