I am currently a mold maker at a composite shop in the race industry. I am self taught for the most part. I started out as a painter and bodyman in the collision industry where I had to do some fiberglass repair. I sucked at it, but I made it work. I started watching YouTube videos to learn and began making my own fiberglass parts about 12 years ago. After 2 years on my own, the company that I was buying materials from offered me a job. I started out making fiberglass body parts for racecars. I learned as much as I could working with the mold maker that worked there, but he left after 8 months and I became the mold maker. I was not ready for that position, so it was slow going, but I figured it out and have been with this company for 10 years now. I don't know it all, so I look forward to learning from more experienced people on this forum and I will help out with your questions whenever I can. I've done wet layup fiberglass and carbon fiber, prepreg carbon and glass. The molds I make are used for both wet layup fiberglass and also for prepreg carbon fiber that is autoclaved.
