fgayford....Do you have any tips for spraying the 2K clear? What do you use for release, easylease? or wax and pva? How many coats? How heavy? Any tips would be appreciated. And would the application change depending on the release agent/s used? I will be using easylease.

If you wish to apply directly to the mould, I think any 2k PU automotive laquer can be used. This company produces in-mould coatings especially for this application.

Hi Pedro,

If your plan is to use the Epoxy Coating Resin as a sort of clear coat then you would be much better off actually using clear coat (lacquer). I would recommend a 2k PU or acrylic lacquer, sprayed through a normal gun. This will give you a better clear finish than spraying the epoxy coating resin and will provide UV stability too.

My intention to spraying the clear coat is to get the pieces to be finished right after the resin cures.

If the resin is brushed, have to be sanded and polished.

Using the gelcoat spray gun to apply the resin, with the #6 nozzle(4.7mm), it will be smooth, or it will be irregular and i´ve got to sand/polish it too?

Hi Pedro,

Although I've never tried it I wouldn't suggest spraying the coating resin if you're using the resin clear and coating something where the clarity (particulary in terms of air entrapment)  is important. The reason is because it's a very viscous resin and it's so important when coating with clear epoxy to reduce the chances of air entrapment wherever possible, I would be worried that spraying might cause air entrapment.

If you do spray, you'll need something larger like 4mm+ nozzle, given how thick this coating resin is.
