Not sure why they aren't showing? They were visible when I posted... oh well, I'll try and sort them out when I get back to my pc.

Hello again all,

It's been a while since I've posted, or made any parts as well... been busy at work.  The few parts that I have made recently (with your suggestions) have come out very good - in my eyes at least!   the suggestion for proper trimming of my vacuum consumables helped out dramatically when paired with the "tacky" first coat of resin during wet layup, so thanks to those gems I've been able to avoid the bridging\air voids at sharp angles!

after trying my third part, finally a success!  so I decided to purchase more fabric... this time I wanted the 4x4 twill!!! Zonda style!

https://tguyta.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pxgqnpzkcHEKArrsvkHNAcpVtn6kHTvYCBzIHSiJMR1Sv8ZM6mcglUxS4R2drI_tf0rUYDe0O_4IwhqncTSXt18CSXsa5d189/1357940753196.jpg?psid=1

so with one outer layer of the 4x4 twill, and one inner layer of a 45*\45*  the headlight covers for the drift car come in at just under 1\12th of the original weight!!

(this is where the true possibilities of a racing application sunk their teeth in!)  so if I can drop that much weight with a non-structural part, here come doors (roll cage already fitted), fenders, liftgate, hood, quarter panels, roof...    then I realize, I need a better paying job lol!

I also had some old Ferrari 360\430 door sill plates left over from my previous work... they are heavy heavy stainless steel, so I thought I'd give them a go in the vacuum field...

I was very pleased to know that I may be ready to move on to infusion now that I've grasped the basics of bagging with these few small projects!

oh, and of course... I skinned my E36 bmw mirrors...  just to see if it truly was as easy as you have said. AND IT IS!

Had a successfull part released from the mould last night!  the tips I've recieved here helped dramatically, thanks for the help guys!  I tried to post a photo, but keep getting a pop-up saying I've met my upload limit?  anyway, I will order more materials and try a few more of the small moulds I've made prior to stepping up to the largest.

thanks again for the guidance!

Shaneer22,

you're correct in the aspect of having too much breather cloth (or just not positioned correctly) because I had some slight bridging\voids along the 90* corners.  my third attemp will be made with two layes of breather cut slightly smaller than the part.... hopefully allowing the fiber to stick to the mould on those sharp corners.  Also think I'll try to let the first layer of resin go tacky prior to laying in the first layer of fiber.

thanks for the tips!!  I'll post results hopefully sometime tomorrow.

Looking at your vaccum set up not what you want, your hose looks like it would suck resin out,for wet lay up buy the proper breach unit and place close to edge and put some more breather under breach unit, depending on part size and length add some breather cloth around part to even out vaccum the part your doing is not large enougth to warrant to much breather cloth I would also remember to many materials if not properly placed will cause bridging.good luck.

Gavin,
Didn't mean to leave out your thanks! I'm viewing the site on my phone since I don't have internet capabilities at my home, so the small screen helps me miss several posts!
So thanks for the welcome sir!
