Hi,
I am doing a bottle cap floor and have come to the resin stage.
I have a room of 4.5m2 and have purchased 15kg of glasscast 3 to cover this.
The question is do i have enough? I have grouted around the caps but I am concerned about the grout not being at the level of the cap which may affect the level of resin. The floor is level and I have grouted as level with the caps as i can possibly get it.
I have looked at the calculation for the penny floor for 6sqm and it says 12kg for a 2mm coating and figured i will need at least 15kg for a 2-3mm covering but I want to check before I start to mix and pour. Is there a calculation for a bottle cap floor with grout?

Kind regards

Neil

Hi Neil,

yes you have worked out the amount of resin you will need correctly and will be plenty to cover your entire floor. We do not have any calculation for grouted bottle tops but, as you have figured out, it would be the same as the penny floor. Something to keep in mind, and I am sure you are already aware of this, the grout between the bottle tops will need to be completely dry and any dust swept up before pouring the resin over the top.

If you are concerned that the grout is not completely level with the bottle tops, you could split the mixed resin into two pours, first layer being 5kg to fill in all of the dips and slightly lower areas, waiting for this to reach its 'B' stage of curing and then going onto the 10kg to achieve the perfectly smooth finish. However, this will be something to think about as 4.5m2 is a large area to double pour.
