Hi everyone,

I've been making stuff at home for a few years now.  I've done some resin pouring but nothing amazing, just testing resins and pigments in small moulds to see the properties of the finished items.

I'm wanting to make my own beehive.  I've bought some "water clear" resin from eBay for my first run.  I'm going to start by making a brood box.  If I was to buy one instead, it would be this - https://www.abelo.co.uk/shop/poly-hives-national/new-national-poly-14-x-12-brood-box-pre-orders/

at 160g/l the poly hive is a very light thing.  Resin has a much higher density.  I'd like to keep weight down so I will be looking to add some low density media in there.  Ideally there will be a few areas of clear resin so I can see into the hive without disturbing the bees.

I've been thinking of building a timber mould and taping it up.  Then I would sand down any imperfections once it has cured.  Alternatively, I could buy a load of perspex and grease it up.

Any thoughts on this?
