Hello all, apologies if this has been asked before and apologies if I am being long winded, but I realise getting good advice before starting can make a huge difference, so thank you in advance for any help you can give.... I am going to make a telescope tube about 1200mm long, 300mm diameter. Initially I was going to use a 1500mm Sonotube as a male mould and vacuum infuse the part on to it, however I realise tool removal will be highly problematic. This then leaves me with the option of making a female mould from the sonotube, which is fine seems easy enough and has the advantage of leaving me with a nice surface finish. First question, will I have to reinforce the mould with plywood to stop it flopping around, say rectangular pieces with a semi circle cutout? If so, when and how do I introduce these? is it between the Coupling Coat and the 450g CSM, or after the 450g CSM? Second question, I plan on using vacuum infusion to do the CF layup on the inside of the mould, what is the best way to do this? There is no way I could do a dry layup without fighting gravity. My first thought is to make a shorter male form to wind a single layer and associated infusion mesh, bag etc, then put it in the mould, seal up the bag, and go as normal. I would imagine at best I could only do a single laminate at a time in order to avoid bridging issues, then have to do 4 or so sessions to achieve a 4 layer laminate? Is there a better way to do it, perhaps with all 4 layers? Or do I do it in two halves, with two seams, that could be better, but I would still only be able to do one layer at a time? Any help would be most appreciated.
