Hi I'm looking for a dense foam which is lightweight which can be machined by hi speed turning which would accept a acrylic lacquer finish,I'm currently using a product called Rohacell but I'm looking for an alternative

Hi,

We should certainly be able to supply you with such a foam (I guess we're talking model board or tooling block here). Do you know what density foam you're using? - We should have something pretty close.

If you don't know what density you're currently using then I would suggest our PU80 as the minimum starting point for a pattern making foam. You would be able to paint it with a 2k acrylic although the suitability of this depends on how durable and tough you want the finished part to be. PU80 Low Density Model Board is an 80kg/m3 foam which means it really is more of a foam than a board but if does have a lovely fine finish for a foam (much finer than our low or high density foams, which is why we classify it as a modelboard). We have higher densities too, I'm sure our PU 240 Medium Density Model Board would be up to the job but it's a matter of whether you're looking for something this dense or you can manage with a lower density (therefore cheaper) board.

If you can get back to me with some indication on density I'll be able to pick out the right board for you, certainly.

Best regards, Matt
