Good morning all,

I'm new to the casting game, and am looking for some advice!

The plan is to cast a cylindrical part roughly 25mm in diameter and 80mm in height, and want it to be as clear as possible.

Mould wise I am considering one of the Smooth-On silicon products (Mould Star or SORTA-Clear).

Casting resin I'm considering GlassCast 50 (based on the total height of the part).

I do not have degassing/vacuum kit available.

I have been reading around, trying to ensure I'm selecting compatible materials etc., but figured it safest to ask the community!

If anyone has advice or experience with the above combination I would welcome it!

Many thanks

Not having worked with the Smooth-on range of silicones, I cannot for sure say they will be compatible, however in all likelyhood they would work fine.  We have tested the GlassCast range with our own Addition cure and Condensation cure silicones and the range of smooth on products includes both kinds of silicone.

Traditionally you need to be cautious with Condensation cure silicones and water clear resins due to moisture commonly present in condensation cure silicones but with GlassCast, it seems to not be an issue and cures fine .
