Hey everybody,

I try to make some parts from metal/Aluminium moulds. On the first try I had release problems and there were some defect spaces now. I used easylease 5 times on the Mould, but I had the feeling it would not really „stick“ on it.

Is there any special thing to know using easylease on metal?

Thanks

Hi Sebastian,

EasyLease is the right choice on an aluminium mould, in fact it’s perfect for it. I’m surprised you had any release problems, you might need to look at other causes for the problem such as the mould surface (is it too rough from machining?) the application process for the EasyLease or possibly even the shelf life of the release agent (i.e is it old).

Another possible consideration is whether the laminate was fully cured. If not then you’ll get release problems. It’s possible that a heavy aluminium tool took a lot of heating up and so slowed the cure down.

I hope the helps, Matt

I have used aluminium for moulds for many items made in FG and CF with no issues. However, I use wax rather than liquid on the aluminium  (personal choice) with no problems. As Matt said, make sure part is fully cured before attempting release. Before adding release agent make sure aluminium is very clean, I use acetone. Repeat wiping until no more stains appear on the cloth.
