I plan to pour a 1 to 1.5mm thick layer of Glasscast Clear Epoxy Coating Resin over the top of a painted wooden entrance door to provide additional protection.

The final painted finish is a water based Quick Dry Satinwood applied over water based undercoat. Link to product info- http://30c2767b0bd5dcf2ed1b-bbdc079217abc3c5161aab4698c61450.r80.cf3.rackcdn.com/tds/dulux-trade-diamond-satinwood-tds.pdf

The painted surface has been sanded smooth with 1200grit wet-n-dry.

Unfortunately its not practical to test the epoxy with the surface before the pour so I know there will be a risk but please advise:
  1. If there are any known incompatibility issues with using Glasscast Clear Epoxy Coating Resin over a water based paint
  2. If I should I scuff up the painted surface with 120G or will the smooth finish be OK
  3. If there are any other preparations required for the pour

As you even mentioned, in an ideal world you would test it.

However  it is unlikely you will have any problems as long as you prepare things properly.  You want to ensure the paint is fully cured  before starting.  A good key with sandpaper at 120-240 grit will provide a good surface for the resin to bond to.  Although take care not to go through the paint totally .    Ensure you give the door a final clean before coating with resin and you should be good  to go.
