In most cases I have seen, people are just using a simple copy of the original. It is possible the roof on your car may have a steep edge or lip, in which case there may be some merit in what you are saying. However on most applications, you have cut the original roof anyway so if you needed to "caress" the edges with a hammer to gain a mm or two to fit the carbon one over nicely then I doubt that would be an issue.
