Hi suman,

What adhesive and process are you using presently to bond the hinges to the composite? Is the bond failing between the adhesive and the composite or the adhesive and the metal?

A good heavy key of the surfaces to be bonded as well as through cleaning/de-greasing to ensure there are no surface contaminants which could otherwise affect the bond should form a good basis for the adhesive.

Hi Rich,
I am using araldite aw106+ hw 956 a two part adhesive system. I am  degreasing both the surfaces after filing the surfaces for roughness.  bond is failing between adhesive and hinge while conducting test for delamination.

hi,
my hinges are presently made of brass. i am using them as stainless steel hinges often failed due to poor adhesion.

You could consider using a methacrylate adhesive like Plexus.
I find these work really well for metal to composite bonding.

Hi Suman,

As Fasta suggests, a Methacrylate will give you a better bond as unlike an epoxy or polyurethane adhesive, a Methacrylate has an etching property and as such really bites into the bonding surfaces; they;re compatible with both the metal and the composite side of the bond.

We have a Methacrylate at Easy Composites (VM100B - https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/vm100-black-methyl-methacrylate-adhesive ) but as it is classifed as a Dangerous Good for shipping, there are some restriction on where we can send it.
