Advice sought

During the summer holidays I am working on the production of a prototype 1/8 scale nitro-powered road car for my local school.

One of the main objectives is to save weight over the existing car and, so far, ISTM that it might be a Good Idea to use 1/4" aluminium honeycomb sandwiched between two sheets of, say, 1mm aluminum.

1.   Is this a good idea?

2.   What sort of adhesive should be used to make my sandwich?

Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

PS    I should have explained that it is my thought that I could use this material as a platform on which to hang everything else.
