Thought I'd create this thread for people to post pictures of their workshop and new and homade tools they use and maybe how and why they use them. for composite projects.
I'll start ....
This is a steel(looks plastic)Stanley 360° multiangle(it uses a ball joint and is very stable when clamped) soft grip vice I use for holding peices while I cut them with a dremel so I can change the angle of the peice so I'm not using the dremel at funny angles thus getting better cutting control.£21 brand new off eBay :-) steal!

YouTube vid  is in Russian or something but you can see how it works.

OK, well, we have quite a few things in our workshop (as you'd expect) but I'll be sure to post some pics of the Stepcraft desktop CNC we took delivery of last week... We've been wanting to do an 'accessible' guide to CNC machining a pattern from model board and so we'll be using the Stepcraft with some PU or Epoxy tooling block to make some precision patterns in a video we've got planned. I'm looking forward to that one.

We also have some weird and wonderful R&D projects such as a vacuum casting machine we're working on and of course about 50 prototypes for the Benchtop Curing Oven we developed. Not sure anyone would want to see any pics of those!

Matt you have my interest with this "CNC machining a pattern from model board" as I have just finished building a CNC milling machine with LinuxCNC and have been learning Fusion360 as much as I can, so I hope the CAD/CAM stuff is in Fusion360 Smile

My workshop is very busy in the fact it's full of cars and equipment but no room to swing a cat. Currently 3 minis and a mk2 Grenada in there. Plus my curing ovens and all my tools and my trusty lambretta.
Hopefully 3 phase will be installed soon and I can remove a couple of cars. Then I will take a photo as it's a complete tip at the moment.

I'm looking forward to building a new "composites only" workshop in the rear half of an old "rolling x-ray lab" semi-trailer .. the front half is already built up as an electronics lab with insulation and Heat pump heating -- Rolleyes

At the moment I do my composites work in my normal workshop, which is really cramped, with an old 800 kg Milling machine and a Colchester Student 1800 Lathe .. Satisfied

My garage is no good at winter since its not insulated Crying -- But this will be remedied later this summer -- Next winter it will need to hold 5 bikes  .. (3 of my own + 2 belonging to a friend) Two of them are Italian, and really do not like the cold and damp - The others are German and Danish steel .. No problems there .. BigGrin

"Sapere Aude"... Dare to KNOW!

The written word is the only truly efficient vehicle for transmitting a complex concept from mind to mind...

Do not adjust our mind, theres a fault in reality :-)

Hi Davro, Yes, we'll more than likely use Fusion360 for the CAD. We won't focus too much on the intricacies of the CAD software / GCODE / Router setup (because there are so many options out there) but we will be demonstrating the machining, the finish you can get, board finishing and prep and then creating the composite tools from the board.

Did somebody mention benchtop curing ovens??? Haha

Been waiting to see how those will come out. I'm on the edge of either buying an old used curing oven, building my own from scratch, and waiting to see how the EC ovens will be.
