Hi I am interested in finding out the properties of the carbon fibre tow. Ideally, I need to draw up a stress strain graph, does anyone have one of these already? I'm interested in the following properties:

Young's Modulus
yield strength
Ultimate Tensile Strength
Stress/strain at yield point
Stress/strain at UTS

There is a lot of general information on the net about carbon fibre and it's properties but it would be good to get a spec for this particular product.

Hi Sam,

The fibre type used in many of our standard cloths and tow is the Toray T300 or equivalent, here's some data on the fibre;

Carbon Fibre Properties
                                        English              Metric
Tensile Strength                 512 ksi                3,530 MPa
Tensile Modulus                  33.4 Msi              230 GPa
Strain                                1.5 %                  1.5 %
Density                              0.064 lbs/in3       1.76 g/cm3
Filament Diameter              2.8E-04 in.           7 μm
Yield;
1K                                    22,568 ft/lbs        66 g/1000m
3K                                    7,523 ft/lbs          198 g/1000m
6K                                    3,761 ft/lbs          396 g/1000m
12K                                  1,862 ft/lbs          800 g/1000m

CTE                               -0.41 α⋅10-6/°C
Specific Heat                   0.19 Cal/g⋅°C
Thermal Conductivity       0.025 Cal/cm⋅s⋅°C
Electric Resistivity            1.7 x 10-3 Ω⋅cm
Chemical Composition:    Carbon 93 %
                                      Na + K <50 ppm

I Hope this information is of use to you.
