I've been snooping on this site for ages, but finally took the plunge and bought a fabric sample set, epoxy resin and a polypropylene board. I cut the board in half, and I've been having fun squishing resin and fabric between the two bits of polypropylene.

My latest one was two layers of poly/carbon 2/2 (210gsm) and one layer of kevlar/carbon (188gsm) giving a total fabric weight of 608gsm. After trimming, the size of my piece was 0.003844sqm and 4.67g in weight. This gives a total weight of 1214gsm, and as we know the the fabric is 608gsm in total, this means 606gsm of resin - basically a 1:1 ratio of fabric and resin.

so how does that compare with what people would usually expect through a manual layup? From the resin infusion pdf on this site, you'd expect a triple layer piece to use about 240gsm of resin. I obviously used a lot more than that, but is this normal for the "method" i used, ie squishing the fabric and resin between two bits of polypropylene under moderate weight?
