2-component Clear Coat refers to "automotive 2-component clear paint/varnish sprayed on.  (You can get an Auto paintshop to do this, which will cost you a bit, but give a perfect finish)

The clear coat often gets rid of all the small pinholes, since the varnish/laquer fills them up.

Once You have gotten deeper "into" the layer of CF weave, you really need to put on a new layer.. otherwise it will be very visible.  I "salvaged" a tank for a friend by suggesting a paint-scheme on top of the CF skinning, that covered up the "poor" areas of CF skinning --- came out very nicely in the end .. (I'm no fan of "Total Carbon cover" on things like petroltanks or motorbike fairings.. gets a bit "Carbon Overload" "rich" for me .. Hehe)

Good luck with the project ...

Do you have any suggestions for improving these parts?

Whats the best way of making the pin holes good?
Sand right back then layer back up?

I did use Acetone on the parts before re-layering but struggled to get some of the residue off.

Its been proving really difficult to try and sand things smooth with out it going through to the metal of the parts at times, it's only small places it just a pain, any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

The 2-part clear coat is that referring to gel coating?

I'm am guessing that to get the tank good I'll have to put another layer of fabric over?

To add to Dravis, it is important at each stage to clean the part properly after sanding. The white dots are themselves, sanded resin dust in the pinholes so you need to clean it properly before overcoating.

Seems like several things went wrong here...

The Tank image, shows what looks to me like delamination between layers of top-coat epoxy (Coating Epoxy?)   Did you wet sand and degrease between coatings of Epoxy?

Also did you work at low temperatures or in high moisture environment ? That may explain the "cloudy" areas.  If they are only in the top coatings, they can probably be sanded away.

The little white dots are "pinholes" from very small airbubbles in the resin... Very hard to get rid of completely, which is why I often wet sand, and do a 2-component clear coat on "skinned" parts.
That makes most of the pinholes invisible or nearly so.

With great care you may be able to wet sand down to just above the Carbon fibres, and then clear-coat.  That may save your work.  If you do sand into the weave, it will give that area a slightly different look.
I've done a few parts where I sanded the whole part down into the weave, and by doing it carefully and evenly, it can come out looking very nice anyway, but a real Carbon "geek" will spot it  ... BigGrin

Hello wonder if any one can help me with a few problems I'm having.

A. I've Carbon laminated a motorbike petrol tank with B & R carbon, my problem is that I cant seem to get rid of the grey water marks or small little dots. Tried using acetone & ethanol, tried polishing, I just cant get rid of them, I'm hesitant to sand much more because in places its starting to break through and the satin isn't as robust as the carbon.

B. I've resin laminated the whole frame, however when I'm trying to get a polish finish using wet and dry little white dots start showing up like they are in the resin it self.
I did used flumed silica to give the base layer a decent ability to hold, but I left it a long time with the black colouring paste as suggested.

I also use my catch pot chamber as a vacuum chamber to take out as much of the air as I could.

This is my first attempt at a composite project so am a little unsure. tbh I'm getting a little frustrated with it now, I just want my bike back in one piece, the amount of hours I have put in is getting ridiculous.

Any help would be much appreciated
