That will regulate the vacuum but not turn off the pump.
If you turn the pump off without turning off a valve you will find your Pump oil gets sucked out, so I don't think you want what you are asking for.

Thank you for the replies . I am after a switch that will turn the pump on and off and keep the vacuum at the required pressure so the pump is not on all the time . I have a regulator  to adjust the pressure .All I need is a  automatic electric pressure  switch?

Is there a reason you want to turn the pump off? From an electrical point of view, there would be less damage to the pump to leave it running than switching it on and off under load.

Also, if your bags are sealed, it shouldn't need topping up?

Hi AHA,

I have been looking into creating something like your describing when I get time.

It would have been handy, had a mould surface breach in a tiny place, after the infusion even after pre testing for vaccum.
Had to baby sit it for hours as I don't like leaving the pump running constant, but I do have a degassing chamber attached to the line to act as a vacuum air pig.

RS has a range of adjustable vacuum switches, this norgren switch operates in the -1bar to -0.2bar range.

Hope helped.

Oh my bad, misunderstood your post. What you're asking can be done much simpler, just use one of these:

There's no harm in running your pump under very little load for hours at a time.

What Brian says is true though, it will suck the oil out of your pump if the valve is left open. So long as you have a catch can with nothing between it and the pump (like a leak indicator) then it's totally fine, you won't damage your pump or do anything any harm, provided you refill the pump with oil (not the stuff that came out of it) before you use it again.

I am also looking to find a vacuum regulator switch etc to set up with a tank.

I feel that running a pump continuously is costing me too much in power use when if set up with a tank it may only run for some minutes each hour?

It would also be much quieter and save wear on the pump?

As we are new to the composites industry, we made the mistake of leaving the valve opened for a short period whilst the vacuum pump was off after resin infusion which saw the pump oil being sucked out. We closed off the valve as soon as we saw this happening..

Just wondering if this would have done any damage to the pump? (it is brand new) And if its just a matter of topping it up with fresh oil?

JD
