Hi all,
I am a film prop and costume collector (and part time maker!).
I am currently making a display for a costume I have and I would like a custom 'base' for the mannequin to stand on.
The base will look like real stone, but needs to be light weight and reasonably strong. It wont need to take the weight of the mannequin, but will need to be able to with stand little knocks etc.
An example of what I would like to re-create can be seen here:
Example Display StandI have been told the best way to make this would be to carve polyurethene foam. However, I am not sure whether low or high density is appropriate....or even what the difference is (besides price!).
Can anyone give me some advice as to which would be best to use? What tools to use (files, sand paper, saws etc), whether sanding creates alot of dust with foam (wear face mask?).
Obviously once carved, I would like to paint it to look like stone. The foam base will be sat over a wooden frame with wheels, so the display can be moved (this part is already made, so just waiting the foam 'stones'.
Any other tips and ideas would be much appreciated.
Thank you and I look forward to your replies
