Hi.
Need some advice on this topic:
I am working on a helmet project. Following steps have been done:
1. Made a model/pattern of a (climbing) helmet of fiberglass/resin.
2 To get a smooth surface on the model/pattern, I used Pattern Coat Primer. Wet-sanded, using increasingly fineabrasive papers (240,800,1200).
3. When satisfied with the surface I used Epoxy Tooling gelcoat to make themould.
4. Before putting on the Epoxy Tooling gelcoat I applied PVA Release agent toensure the release of the model/pattern.

5. Big surprise when trying to remove the pattern from the mould. It did notrelease at all. I had to dig it out.

Can anybody advise me what I did wrong.
When watching the instruction video "
Video Guide to Composites PatternMaking by Hand."I can see no use of release agent at all on the pattern, but on the "Howto use" section for the Pattern Coat Primer it is described to use releaseagent. What to do?

What kind of resin did you use for the pattern in glassfibre?   Polyester or Epoxy ?

When you have ensured that you are not having a mechanical lock, then 5 layers of Release wax .... polished .... between each on the "pattern" ...
PVA  ... well you can have mine ... I do not like the stuff ... I never had release problems with Wax or Easylease, only with PVA ...

"Sapere Aude"... Dare to KNOW!

If it is polyester, the outgassing from a new part could be causing you real issues.  PVA works very well but only with a perfect sealed coating. Otherwise the part can stick again.
