hello,

I have been enjoying prop and costume making as a hobby for some time now and I would love to get into resin casting as it opens a whole new world of possibilities for me in terms of what i could make.

The problem I have hit is that most of the guides I have found are all american and seem to use a brand of silicone and resin called easy cast. Problem is that they don't ship to the UK and the sole uk supplier is very expensive Tongue All of their products are brand named so finding their equivalent is a little difficult since I dont know too much about the materials.

What I would like to try is using silicone to make two part moulds for resin casting of strong (decoration only but must withstand a life of being waved about and knocked about in transport etc) and durable props (swords, armor/decoration parts etc etc). I would like the resin material to be easy to drill through, glue and paint.

Could anyone point me to good products to start with? I would like the cheaper option to begin with as Im sure ill make a bunch of mistakes to begin with - i know tin cure silicone isnt as long lasting and can shrink over time etc etc but while im learning this isnt an issue.

thanks
